South Africa Announces Squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024

On April 30, 2024, South Africa announces squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Aiden Markram has been named as South Africa’s captain. Aiden Markram will captain South Africa for first time in T20 World Cup.

Right arm fast bowler, Anrich Nortje who was sideline from international cricket since September 2023 and wicket keeper left hand batter Quinton de Kock who announce his retirement from ODI cricket after ODI World Cup 2023 are the noticeable inclusion in the squad for South Africa. Both these player were sideline from the central contract list by the South Africa cricket board.

From their good performance in the recently concluded SA-20 league, Ryan Rickelton – left hand wicketkeeper batter and Ottniel Baartman – right hand medium fast bowler have benefitted in the SA’s 15-member squad, and these two are the uncapped T20I players in the South Africa squad.

Ryan Rickelton, played for MI Cape Town, was the leading run-scorer in the SA-20 league with 530 runs at an average of 58.88 and at a strike rate of 173.77. Ottniel Baartman, played for Sun Risers Eastern Cape, took 18 wickets in 08 matches in the SA-20 league. Whereas, right arm medium fast Lungi Ngidi and left arm medium fast Nandre Burger are the travelling reserves for South Africa.

Rob Walter, the South Africa coach said, “Selecting this team was extremely difficult considering the number of T20 cricket which has been recently played and the form of players that has been of display. I want to congratulate Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman – the two uncapped player, on their selection in the South Africa squad for World Cup 2024.”

He further said, “We have seen some brilliant performances from our players in current year which made my job very difficult indeed. Myself is nonetheless proud and confident that we have announced probably the strongest squad that no doubt has every possibility of success in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and United States.”
