ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Warm-up Match Australia vs West Indies
The warm-up matches of ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to end on 1st June 2024. The 14th warm-up match Australia vs West Indies was played at Port of Spain and West Indies beats Australia by 35 runs. In the batting 1st at Port of Spain, West Indies scored 257/4. Pooran & Powel batted electrifying in this match and scored 75 & 52 runs respectively. In the end Sherfane did his job and played fearlessly and scored 47 runs with not out on 18 balls. Pooran, Powell & Sherfane hit 16 sixes collectively.
While Australia fielded 9 players as in the Namibian match. Marcus Stoinis, the all-round player, arrived at Trinidad on Wednesday but his kit was stuck at the Miami and was not included in the team. The interesting thing is that George Bailey (Chair of selectors), Brad Hodge & Andre Borovec (Assistant Coaches) fielded in the match at different stages and Andre Borovec dropped the catch of Pooran.
Pooran arrived at the crease after the 1st wicket down at 38 runs in the 3rd over. Pooran continued the momentum of Shai Hope and Johnson Charles and hit the 3 sixes at the start of the innings. He also hit 5 sixes in the 6 balls against the Agar & Zampa. After the 1st powerplay, the West Indies scored 78 runs against the 1 wicket loss. Pooran reached 50 runs in just 16 balls.
After the Pooran dismissal, Powell continued the momentum and reached his fifty in 25 balls. David picked the wicket of Powell. The next man was the sherfane, who demolished the Australian attack and scored quick 45 runs and remains not out.
Agar & Zampa were given 120 runs collectively in their 8 overs. Tim David was a lucky and less expensive bowler in this match and took 1 wicket against the 40 runs in his four overs. Whereas, Hazelwood was also an expensive bowler and conceded 55 runs in his 4-over quota, and Nathan Ellis conceded 42 runs in his four overs.
Surprisingly, Australia opened the innings with the Agar and did it twice before. Josh Inglis scored 55 runs on 30 balls and Nathan Ellis scored 39 runs on 22 balls. David Warner, Mitchel Marsh, and co failed to score runs and lost by 35. The Australian team has only 9 players available for the warm-up match.
Shamar Joseph, the exciting young fast bowler, took the wicket of David Warner after being hit 2 fours and 1 six. He rattled the stumps on the 4th bowl. Marsh also did not perform in this match and got out by Alzzari Joseph. Australia only managed to score 222 runs against the 7 wickets down and lost by 35 runs.
There are 3 warm-up matches left of this ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The next play will be played between Ireland & Sri Lanka at Lauderhill. The 2nd last of T20 World Cup warm-ups will be between Afghanistan and Scotland. In the last match of T20 WC warm-ups, India will take on Bangladesh at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Both captains is excited to play on this new ground, which is recently built by the cricket authorities.
The ICC T20 World Cup will kick off on 1st June 2024 and the 1st match will be played between USA and Canada. The high voltage match of this event will be played on 9th June in New York. The most awaited match will be played between Pakistan & India at this beautiful Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
