ICC T20 World Cup 2024
The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be the 9th edition of the T20i World Cup. A seasonal Twenty20 International (T20I) tournament which is organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) contested among the men’s national cricket teams of different countries from all over the world. This influential T20 tournament is famous for showcasing the most fast-paced and electrifying cricket format on the world stage.
The ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America from 1st June 2024 to 29th June 2024. This edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup will be the first of any ICC World Cup tournaments to feature in the United States of America. England is the defending champions in this 2024 T20 World Cup, had defeated Pakistan in the final of the ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Overview
In November 2021, it was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the Men’s T20i World Cup 2024 will be played in the West Indies and the United States of America. A joint bid was proposed by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and USA Cricket (USAC) following 02 years of preparation, forming part of a strategic partnership between these two cricket boards. The publicly stated hope of the International Cricket Council is that hosting a major cricket event for the first time will put the United States of America on the international cricketing track.
The tournament will be played by 20 teams, the most of any of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The previous edition of the tournament was contested among the 16 teams. Alongside the 02 host countries, the top 08 teams from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 qualified automatically, as did the next 02 teams in the Team Rankings of the ICC Men’s T20I.
The rest of the 08 teams were qualified through a Regional Qualification Process set by the International Cricket Council. The United States of America, Canada, and Uganda have qualified for the very first time for the ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2024 due to the expansion of the teams and the Regional base Qualification Procedure.
Format of the T20 World Cup 2024
The 20 participating teams are divided into four groups of five teams each in the first round. The top 02 teams from each group will qualify for the Super Eight round where they are further divided into 02 groups of four teams each. The top 02 teams from each group of the Super 8 round will qualify for the Semi-Finals, whereas the winners of the Semi-Finals will through to the final of the ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2024.
Teams for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024
All the 20 participating teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 have qualified for the mega event through different scenarios. 12 teams out of 20 were qualified automatically for the Twenty 20 World Cup 2024. 08 teams of them qualified directly for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup from the previous edition of the ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2022 as they were the top eight teams in that tournament.
02 more teams were qualified directly for the T20 World Cup 2024 on the basis of ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of 14th November 2022 due to their 9th and 10th place in the Rankings. Whereas, West Indies and the United States of America are the other 02 teams among the automatic qualifiers as the hosts of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024.
The remaining 08 places for the teams were filled through the ICC Regional Qualifier Tournaments which include 02 teams each from the Asia region, Africa region, and Europe region along with 01 team from the Americas Qualifiers and 01 team from the East Asia-Pacific qualifiers. One important thing to remember is that Zimbabwe is the only Test-playing nation that failed to qualify for this mega event.

Groups of ICC T20 World Cup 2024
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is divided into two round stages i.e. Group Stage and Super Eight Stage:
Group Stage/Round
All the 20 teams are divided in Four Groups of Five Teams each in the first round i.e. Group Stage. Matches in this round will be played in Single Round Robin format and two teams from each group will qualify for the next round i.e. Super Eight Stage. The placement of all the teams in four groups is below:

Irrespective of the group results after finishing the group stage, standings othe f top two teams of all the groups are pre-determined by the ICC for the very first time in its tournaments. For example, if Pakistan (A2) from Group-A wins its all the group matches then it will remain A2 and will through to Super Eight Group-B as A2.
Furthermore, if any of the top 2 teams or both top 2 teams of any group fails to qualify for the Super Eight Stage, then the team(s) who qualify for the Super Eight Stage will replace the knocked out A1 or A2 team(s). For example, if India (A1) fails to qualify for the Super Eight Stage and Ireland manages to qualify then Ireland will be tagged as A1 from Group-A.
Super Eight Stage/Round
After the completion of the Group Stage, the top 02 teams from each group will be divided further into 02 groups of 04 teams each in the Super Eight Stage. The Super Eight Stage will be played as a single round-robin format, with the top 02 teams from each group will qualify for the Semi-Finals. The top 02 teams from each Super Eight Group will qualify for the Semi-Finals. Semi Final-1 will be played between 1A v 2B whereas the Semi-Final-2 will be played between 2A v 1B. The Final of the ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2024 will be played between the winners of the Semi-Finals on 29th June 2024.

A total of 9 venues have been finalized by the International Cricket Board (ICC) for the upcoming event of the ICC Men’s T20i World Cup 2024. 06 of them are selected from the Caribbean and 03 venues are selected from the United States of America who is going to host an ICC event for the very first time. Umpires and Officials
On Friday, 3rd May, 2024 International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the match officials for the 1st round of T20 World Cup 2024. There are 26 match officials including the umpires and match referees. A total of 20 umpires have been selected for 1st round and 6 match referees among the 26 men panel. For round 2nd, as ICC announced the panel, we will update as soon as possible.

On Friday, 24th May 2024, International Cricket Council announced the Commentary Panel & Presenters for T20 WC 2024. Anthem
On Thursday, 2nd May 2024, ICC released the anthem (Out Of This World) of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Kees Dieffenthaller (Kes), Soca superstar from Trinidad & Tobago, and Seal Paul, Grammy award winner from Jamaica sang this anthem as ICC revealed these superstars earlier through the social media platforms.
Conclusion
The 9th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place from 1st June 2024 to 29th June 2024 in the Caribbean and the United States of America. The United States of America is going to host an ICC mega event for the very first time. 20 teams will participate in the T20 world cup from all living Regions of the World and it has the higher number of teams of any ICC World Cups.
The Co-Hosts United States of America along with Canada and Uganda have qualified for the first time for the T20 World Cup. A total of 09 venues have finalized from both hosts, 06 of them are finalized from the Caribbean and 03 venues are finalized from the United States of America.
Four groups are formed of five teams each in the first round, top two teams from each group will qualify for the next Super Eight round which is further divided into 2 groups of 4 teams each. Two teams from each Super Eight group will qualify for the Semi-Finals, whereas the winners of the Semi-Finals will face each other in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
