On May 06, 2024, Cricket Scotland announces squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Right-hand Scottish batter Richie Berrington has been named as captain of the Scotland Cricket Team. Richie Barrington will captain Scotland for the second consecutive time in the T20 World Cup.
In a 15-member squad, fast bowler Brad Wheal and top-order batter Michael Jones return in the Scotland squad for T20 World Cup 2024. Both of the players are not part of Scotland’s squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series against Ireland and Netherlands in the Netherlands but they are added to the squad for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States.
Doug Watson – Scotland’s head coach said, “The availability of Michael Jones and Brad Wheal in the squad for the T20 World Cup is very important for the team as they have experience of previous T20 World Cup. Although they did not play much cricket in the recent past, it is nice to have a bit of steadiness along the way. We are hopeful to see the same level of performance from these two players if not higher among others when we got to the West Indies.”
He further said, “We are getting a few matches in before then; we are going to play against Ireland and Netherlands in the coming week in Tri-Series which will be good just to get a little of competitiveness under our belts. We want to play competitive cricket and we are done with our training now. It is a real chance to shine on the global stage for us as a nation. If you look at the cricket landscape now, with all the different franchise tournaments available to play for these players across the globe, this is still the high point. It is massive from team and personal perspective.”
