Pakistan announce Squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024
On May 24, 2024, Cricket Board of Pakistan announce squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Veteran batter Babar Azam has been named as captain of Pakistan. Babar Azam will lead Pakistan for the third consecutive time in T20 World Cup. Before the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, Babar Azam led Pakistan in 2021 T20 World Cup (UAE) and 2022 T20 World Cup (Australia) where his side finished as Semi-Finalist and Runner-up respectively.
Pakistan World Cup 2024 squad was confirmed following 2 hours long meeting of PCB selection committee meeting. Meeting was attended by selection committee members including Asad Shafiq, Abdul Razzaq, Wahab Riaz, Muhammad Yousaf, Bilal Afzal, Captain Babar Azam and newly appointed Coach of Pakistan (for white ball) Gary Kirsten.
In a 15-member squad of Pakistan for T20 WC 2024, Saim Ayoub, Azam Khan, Usman Khan, Abbas Afridi and Abrar Ahmed will make their T20 World Cup debut in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Whereas, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim included in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad who coming out from their retirements from international cricket last month.
“This is an extremely talented and balanced squad that has a combination of experience & exciting young talent. These players have been playing together for some time and look well settled and prepared for next month’s tournament.
“Haris Rauf is 100 % fit and bowling well in the nets. It would have been great if he had gotten an outing at Leeds, but we are confident that he will continue to maintain an upward trajectory in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role to play along with other strike bowlers in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.”
